Organic Certification - when is a product deemed organic?
In many countries a product can not be classified as organic unless they have an organic certification pursuant to that particular product.
BIO-GRO New Zealand is a member of IFOAM the World Body for Certified Organics. BIO-GRO New Zealand is also ISO65 accredited and its trademark is internationally recognised.
BIO-GRO New Zealand develops policies to ensure its Standards support organically sustainable land management systems.
Bio-Gro New Zealand
The key functions of BIO-GRO are the:
- setting of BIO-GRO Organic Production Standards
- inspection and certification of BIO-GRO Licensees
- promotion of the BIO-GRO trademark
- fostering of organic research and education
The BIO-GRO Certification Process
Full BIO-GRO certification usually takes a minimum of 36 months to complete.
Proposed Licenses must work to a structured management plan that first needs to be approved by BIO-GRO New Zealand. This plan is monitored by BIO-GRO New Zealand and includes constant product testing throughout the certification process.
Once certification has been made, annual auditing of the management plan is required to retain certification. Licensees are required to keep stringent documentation throughout. Random auditing also takes place.
